From prehistory to antiquity : The testimony of the country's history. The life in the north of Les Landes. The formation of the Lakes.

First of the great lakes of Les Landes in the south of the Bassin d'Arcachon, the Lake of Cazaux-Sanguinet hides archeological sites. 11 km long and 10 km wide, the lake represents 5800 hectars which belong to 3 different villages his maximal depth is 26 m. The aquatic excavations are executed by the Research and Scientific Studies Center of Sanguinet (CRESS).

LOSA : at 5 m depth, a gallo-roman village is settled close to the bridge which allowed the Roman Way to cross "la Gourgue".

L'ESTEY DU LARGE : at 8 m depth, is a village with fortifications from the end of the iron age (IV-I century before JC).

PUT-BLANC : at 13 m depth, is a site of the first iron age, a fishermen's village with the presence of dugouts.

The results of research have allowed various publications. The archeological collections, very valuable, have induced to create an excavation's depot and a municipal site museum.
